For over 3 months, I traced an image from Unsplash and tried to manually apply an art filter. I used this daily practice to study lines and patterns in objects. What are the features (shapes, shadows, colors, textures) that define an object? What are the minimal features that need to be illustrated in order to create a recognizable picture? The subject of my illustrations span from animals and people to landscapes and baby yoda. In my exploration of patterns in images, I found a new appreciation for art and the people in my life. By placing a magnifying glass on the images of loved ones, I had to really study their face and recreate all the freckles and birthmarks that make up their persona. Each stroke triggering a cherished memory.
